A custom soap commission for Plumbline
Share
I recently had the pleasure of working with Plumbline on a custom soap commission to mark the rollout of their new look and feel across stockists.
The brief was simple: small cubes in Plumbline’s brand colours and representing their new branding. In practice, it pushed me into new territory. My usual moulds are built for larger bars, so getting clean, consistent small cubes meant a rethink of my usual process. I used a large slab mould I have had for a while but had never used; cut first with a slab cutter and then carefully by hand to make each 4.5cm cube.

I wanted to see if I could work some of the brand ideas and concepts into the soaps, rather than sticking slavishly to just recreating their colours. I also liked the idea that a plumbing company would have marble and stone products, so worked in a couple of new marbling techniques I've wanted to try. I love the results, and the clients are also very happy.
Commissions like this are so fun, and Plumbline graciously left me mostly to my own devices within the constraints of their branding, which is possibly the best place to be in as a crafter. Sometimes, a push for me to develop a new technique is just the motivation I need to investigate new options for my own lines too. Look out for some marbled soaps coming down the line!
If you’re thinking about a custom soap commission for your own brand or event, please get in touch. I’d love to talk through what’s possible.
