Reinventing lip balm...
Share
My lip balm recipe was awesome — until it wasn’t. I first designed it before I’d done my formulation course, and I’d included too high a percentage of cocoa butter. Butters like cocoa and shea are heat sensitive, and when used above about 10% in balms, they can destabilise and turn grainy. That’s exactly what mine did — it felt beautiful at first, but over time the texture wasn’t consistent.
So, I went back to the drawing board. I’ve now reformulated using both the original candelilla wax and added a touch of beeswax, which makes the formula more stable while still keeping it silky smooth. And of course, I’ve kept the soothing goodness of kawakawa-infused sunflower oil and added calendula for good measure to nourish and protect lips. 💚🌿
Sometimes a tweak is all it takes to turn a good formula into a great one!
